
This tour will expose you to the lemur populations in the south. The visit to Berenty will be a highlight, as it is well known for its lemurs. Also note the contrasting vegetation around Fort Dauphin. Andasibe is also famous for it’s lemurs … therefore lemur galore!

Day 1: Depart for Madagascar
Depart from Johannesburg for Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. Arrive in Tana. Meet and greet and transfer to hotel.

Day 2: Tana – Andasibe
After breakfast depart on a city tour. Tana was built in 3 stages: the high city, the first area occupied during the royal period where the old queen’s palace is situated. You will see the “Rova”, the queen’s palace and the house of the first minister during this period. Then we drive down to the mid-city or the administrative area ending at the Rainiharo tombs, where all the chic boutiques of the capital are found. We then proceed to the low city which is the commercial area with its magnificent “Avenue de l’independence” and its imposing “old railway station”. Depart in the afternoon to Andasibe through the green landscape of the east. Arrive and check-in at accommodation.

Day 3: Andasibe – Tana
Depart for visit to Andasibe National Park. Visit the Special Reserve of Andasibe to see the Indri Indri, the biggest lemurs of the island. This 810 ha reserve has a unique variety of endemic fauna and flora. It contains a wide variety of orchids, canopy forest and endemic animals. After the visit drive back to Tana. En route stop at Mandraka to visit the private reserve of “Domaine Pyereras” where you can see different kinds of chameleons, snakes, lemurs and butterflies.

Day 4: Tana – Fort Dauphin
Transfer to the airport for flight to Fort Dauphin.
Arrive in Fort Dauphin and transfer to hotel. Afternoon at leisure. Fort Dauphin lies in the south-east coast of Madagascar. It is doted with two distinct climates, which gives it two contrasting landscapes: the east is humid with green tropical forests and the south dry and desert like.

Day 5: Fort Dauphin – Berenty
Transfer to Berenty, which is about 80 kms from Fort Dauphin. Stop at the Nepenthès fields … these are carnivorous plants. You will also see the triangular palm “Neodypsis Decari”, an endemic palm to Fort Dauphin.
Berenty boasts with almost every variety of fauna and flora of the south. It is also known for its lemurs … the ring-tailed lemurs, the dancing lemurs and many others. Evening tour to look for nocturnal animals.

Day 6: Berenty – Fort Dauphin
Day at leisure. Get up at dawn, as this is the best time for bird watching, see the sifakas opening their arms to see the sun, and enjoy the coolness of the forest before enjoying breakfast. The reserve is split into five sections surrounded by extensive sisal plantations. The total area of about 265 ha is situated along the Mandrare River. Explore on your own. During the afternoon return to Fort Dauphin.

Day 7: Fort Dauphin – Tana
Transfer to the airport to check-in for flight to Tana. Met upon arrival and transfer to hotel.
